Custom Digital Prints

For images seen on this web site, prints are produced from high resolution scans of original 35mm Kodachrome transparencies or b&w negatives. Two separate scanning devices have been used to date: ICG Drum Scan @5000dpi, and Nikon Super Coolscan 4000ED scanner @4000dpi.

Each color digital print is produced to match the original Kodachrome transparency as closely as possible. Using current technologies, nothing is digitally added, significantly altered or taken away from the original Kodachrome image. Black & White photographs are frequently, but only modified by selectively editing the negative's image contrast.
 

Paper Choices:  Archival Paper vs OBA Whiteners and Dynamic Range

Photographs can be custom printed on a variety of papers. The paper stocks available are Epson Ultra Premium Photo Paper Luster, Ilford Galerie Smooth Pearl resin-coated papers or Moab Legion Paper Entrada Rag Natural 190, Canson Platine Fibre Rag. The archival paper helps to insure a reasonable display life without fading. The prints are created using either a HP Z series, or Epson high quality digital photo inkjet pigment printer with either HP's Vivera or Epson's UltraChrome HD archival pigment inksets.
 

Lighting

Good, directed color neutral lighting is necessary for proper viewing and display of color prints. You might want to visit Bulbs.Com and order a Halogen light bulb for them, or pick one up locally. But the important point to note is that prints look best with proper lighting. Within reason, we should be able to produce a customized print for your lighting environment.
 

Delivery Time Frame

From available stock, a print will normally ship sooner than two weeks after a receipt of order payment. (Not all web images have adequate scanned, digital printing files. Those will likely take longer to process.)
 

Guarantee

While providing a reference, in most instances the JPG images posted on this website do not render the detail, the exact colors or the luminosity of the prints.
