Davis Canyon Pictographs - Five Faces,
Canyonlands National Park, Utah 1983

 

The painted pictograph faces were all done on prepared, lightly sanded surfaces. Immediately to the left of the painted faces is another sanded area for a sixth pictograph. You can see this in the photo if you look closely. When I was there I originally thought that this meant it was unfinished due to the older seep lines. However considering where we are now in the world, that spare surface leads me to thinking about these Mythic timeimages as suggesting a longer span of mythic time:
